Cutting Board Care Guide
Keep Your Cutting Board Looking Beautiful for Years to Come
At Alchemy Timbercraft, we craft cutting boards designed to last—but proper care is essential to maintaining their beauty and durability. Follow these simple steps to keep your board in pristine condition.
Daily Care & Cleaning
- Hand Wash Only – Never put your cutting board in the dishwasher. Wash it with warm water and mild soap using a soft sponge or cloth.
- Avoid Soaking – Wood is porous, and excessive water exposure can cause warping. Rinse promptly and dry thoroughly after washing.
Oiling & Conditioning
Regular oiling is essential to prevent drying and cracking.
- How Often? – Apply food-grade mineral oil every 2-4 weeks (or when your board feels dry).
- Application – Spread a generous amount of cutting board oil over the entire surface using your fingers or a clean cloth. Let it absorb for a couple hours minimum or preferably overnight. Wipe off excess.
- Deep Conditioning – Occasionally, use a beeswax-based board cream for added protection and water resistance. We recommend out own Board butter. Other good options are Walrus Oil or Howards Butcher Block Oil which can be purchased at the Home Depot.
Avoiding Damage
- No Excessive Heat – Keep your board away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent warping.
- Be Gentle – Heavy chopping can dent the surface over time—consider using different boards for meat and delicate prep work.
Long-Term Maintenance
- Sanding & Restoration – If your board becomes rough or develops deep knife marks, lightly sand with fine-grit sandpaper and recondition with oil.
- Storage – Store upright in a dry area with airflow, ensuring it’s not resting on a damp surface.
With proper care, your Alchemy Timbercraft cutting board will remain a stunning centerpiece in your kitchen for years. Invest in its longevity, and it will reward you with lasting beauty and function!
